An illegal immigrant is accused of causing a car crash in Shelby Township, Michigan, that killed 88-year-old Nancy Richmond, a mother of three and grandmother of seven, and her daughter Crystal Brann, 63, a mother of two and grandmother of five.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Medina-Hernandez was driving a box truck in Shelby Township on June 6 when he rear-ended a Buick Verano driven by Richmond and Brunn. Two other vehicles were involved in the crash.

State Sen. Joseph Bellino (R-16th District) then wrote Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) asking for information about how Medina-Hernandez was able to obtain a driver’s license as an undocumented immigrant.
“Michigan law requires that an individual be ‘lawfully present’ in the state to be issued a standard driver’s license, and requires even more rigorous background checks for commercial driver’s licenses,” Bellino said. statement“It is extremely disturbing to think that Commissioner Benson may be illegally issuing licenses to undocumented immigrants.”
Medina-Hernandez remains in Macomb County custody on $250,000 bail.
