An illegal immigrant in Florida is being held without bail after allegedly grabbing an 11-year-old girl by the hand, dragging her into a van and sexually assaulting her.
Last Thursday around 9 p.m., Marvin Perez López, 20, a Guatemalan national, was standing near a van parked outside his apartment building in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, just a few miles south of West Palm Beach. Ta. Then he discovered an 11-year-old girl who also lived in the apartment complex.
“I asked Marvin what he would do if she got pregnant.”
Lopez allegedly grabbed the girl’s hand and ordered her to “get in the van.” affidavit he claimed. The man then allegedly began touching the girl in a way that made her uncomfortable. He once let her get away, but the suspect grabbed her again and threw her back into her car, where he pressed his body against hers.
Meanwhile, the girl’s mother went looking for her daughter. When she saw the van, she started screaming, knock on the window. Police arrived soon after, but the suspect fled the scene.
On Saturday, police located Lopez and arrested him on multiple charges, including kidnapping for sexual assault of a minor, sexual assault of a victim under 12, and resisting an officer. and was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail. His bond was denied.
The evidence against Lopez appears to be overwhelming at this point. First, Sheriff Rick Bradshaw told reporters, “He confessed to the crime.”
Lopez’s sister-in-law, Hermencia Vasquez, confronted him shortly after the alleged attack, and Lopez confessed to her. “She asked Marvin what he would do if she became pregnant and if he would be responsible for her, and he said he would be responsible for her child,” Vazquez told WPTV in Spanish. “I answered,” she said.
Lopez crossed the border from Mexico to the United States for the first time in January. He then turned himself in to the Border Patrol and was released shortly thereafter, with a hearing scheduled for sometime in 2027. 3 years from now.
Immigration attorney Richard Heiber told WPTV that many illegal aliens use the detention system to buy time by turning themselves in. “They know that the trial date is years away,” Heuber explained. For example, with this hearing notice, you can obtain a driver’s license.
Hibber added: “If they apply for asylum, they can also get a work permit. And no one is weighing the merits of whether they have a legitimate and valid asylum claim.”
“The federal government is inflicting casualties by allowing people who live in this country to come here,” Sheriff Bradshaw argued.
The affidavit said the mother of the 11-year-old alleged rape victim may have even been discouraged from reporting due to immigration concerns. Not only was the woman concerned about her “immigration status,” but she also claimed that she had been separated from her daughter for a period of time due to “prior events,” WPTV reported.
Ms Bradshaw insisted that immigration issues aside, justice would be served for the girl. ”[Lopez is] “Before you even think for a second that you’re going to be deported, you’re going to be tried for a capital crime,” the sheriff said.
“He’s going to kill time here first.”
