Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Wednesday that one of three suspects arrested in connection with a firearm-related homicide that occurred in New Orleans on June 30, 2024, is an illegal immigrant.
WGNO report The suspect, Joshua Aviara Bonifacio, 19, is reportedly in the U.S. illegally and is suspected of being involved in the shooting death of 43-year-old Christy Thibodeau, a tour guide in New Orleans.
Thibodeau is shot He was killed just after 4:30 a.m. on June 30th at the corner of Royal and St. Peter Streets.
ICE noted that on May 11, 2019, “Border Patrol agents encountered Aviara Bonifacio in Texas and determined he was inadmissible.”
The agency wrote about Aviara Bonfiacio’s interactions with police after he entered the country:
- On May 14, 2019, the U.S. Border Patrol released Aviara Bonifacio on bail.
- On October 6, 2023, the Kenner Police Department (KPD) arrested Aviara Bonifacio under the false name Joshua Avila for theft.
- On February 14, 2024, KPD arrested Aviara Bonifacio again on charges of theft, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and three counts of being a fugitive from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R) responded to ICE’s announcement regarding Aviara Bonifacio in a post on X:

One of the other suspects allegedly involved in the murder is a 15-year-old boy who was reportedly under surveillance with an electronic ankle monitor.
