Illegal alien arrested for alleged child rape in Martha’s Vineyard had just been released from prison

Illegal immigrants Charged A man serving time on the wealthy island of Martha's Vineyard for child rape had just been released from prison for other violent crimes.

24-year-old Brazilian Warry Neto Indicted He was charged with five counts of child rape and five counts of enticing a minor under the age of 16.

“Too often, local authorities refuse to honour immigration detention orders, releasing dangerous criminals back into society to offend again.”

Authorities said Neto entered the United States illegally in 2018 and was released with a notice to appear before an immigration judge.

However, he was arrested five years later on charges of strangulation, assault and criminal threats. He was convicted in June 2023 and sentenced to one year in prison, but was released after serving only 90 days.

A few months later, he was arrested on child rape charges. Details about the new charges have not been released due to the victim's age.

ICE officials said local law enforcement is assisting with the detention request.

“Wally Neto is accused of repeatedly assaulting children in Massachusetts and poses a significant threat to the safety of our community,” Todd M. Lyons, director of the ICE Boston field office, said in a statement.

Martha's Vineyard is famously where Florida's Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, sent asylum seekers in 2022 to pressure Democrats who ostensibly support “sanctuary state” policies. It's unclear if Neto was one of those sent to the luxury island.

“We appreciate the cooperation of the Dukes County Sheriff’s Office, who prioritized public safety and allowed us to safely transfer Neto into custody. [Enforcement and Removal Operations]”Too often, local governments fail to respect immigration detention orders, releasing dangerous criminals back into society to reoffend. ERO Boston will continue to apprehend and remove the most dangerous criminal aliens from New England,” Lyons continued.
