The news agency reported that two men posing as Amazon delivery drivers attempted to break into the Marine Corps Base Quantico near Triangle, Virginia. On May 3, the men drove a box truck to the main gate of the base. They told the guards they worked for Amazon and were trying to make a delivery to the base’s post office.
Because they were unable to provide access credentials, local police directed the men to wait in a holding cell for a secondary examination.
“Have U.S. investigators ruled out a terrorist motive?”
Capt. Michael Curtis told Potomac Local News, “One of the military police officers noticed the driver continuing to move the vehicle beyond the hold area and approaching Quantico, ignoring the officer’s direct instructions.” he said.
Officers quickly took action and activated a no-vehicle barrier to prevent the truck from proceeding further into the base.
Curtis told news outlets the two men were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He said no one was injured in the incident.
One of the men was a Jordanian who had recently entered Jordan from the southern border, multiple sources told Potomac Local News. One of the truck’s occupants was reportedly on a U.S. terrorist watch list, officials said. However, the military base could not confirm the source’s information.
Officials also claimed that the base has increased security measures since the incident and warned staff to be on high alert, the news outlet reported.
The Marine Corps cited the individuals for trespassing, said Todd Bensman, national senior fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies.
Bensman writes: new york post In our column about this incident, “Were illegal border crossers from the Middle East just trying to attack U.S. military bases?” There are many more questions that need answers. But the federal government remained silent. ”
“Have U.S. law enforcement agencies ruled out a terrorist motive? Do U.S. counterterrorism agencies want to know that, and is anyone looking into that question?” Bensman continued. Ta. “Was there a weapon in the truck or on the illegal immigrants it was transporting? Was the truck itself the weapon? When and how exactly did the men enter the United States?”
Mr. Sienkowski told Mr. Bensman that no one would release additional information about the case.
“We contacted almost every elected official and many of the officials who are running,” Sienkowski said.
“What really surprised me was that a whole week has passed and no other media outlets have followed up on this story,” Sienkowski added. “We need more transparency about how border issues impact national security through localized incidents like this.”
In response to the report, Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) wrote: X“Our greatest national security threat is a border crisis caused by a border crisis. [President Joe Biden]. The latest warning is this report that a Jordanian who crossed the border was on a terrorist watch list and attempted to evade security and enter Marine Corps Base Quantico. As for whether it’s true or not. ”
