An illegal immigrant who successfully crossed the U.S.-Mexico border was convicted of child sex offenses in a custody case in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Ruben Guzman Martinez, a 41-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, Crossed They plan to cross the southern border before 2019.
Guzman-Martinez was arrested by Gaithersburg, Maryland police for drunk driving in July 2019. He was convicted in Montgomery County District Court in September 2020 and sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Even though Guzman-Martinez is an illegal immigrant, Montgomery County's sanctuary policy appears to have allowed him to serve his sentence and reintegrate back into society.
Guzman-Martinez was arrested by Montgomery County Police on suspicion of sexual solicitation of a minor in October 2022. In August 2023, Guzman-Martinez was convicted in Montgomery County Circuit Court of two counts of attempted fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Guzman Martinez was sentenced to six months in prison and one year of probation.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Guzman-Martinez in Gaithersburg on September 5. He remains in federal custody pending deportation from the United States.
