A previously deported illegal immigrant is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the wealthy island of Nantucket, off the coast of Massachusetts' Cape Cod.
Felix Alberto Pérez Gómez, a 41-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala, Crossed He crossed the southern border sometime before June 2011 as a so-called “getaway” and was arrested in Pennsylvania for reckless driving and endangering others.
After being convicted of these charges, Pérez Gómez was sentenced to one year of probation and then a federal immigration judge ordered him deported from the U.S. In August 2011, Pérez Gómez was deported to his native Guatemala.
Shortly before August of this year, Pérez Gómez managed to cross the southern border again as a fugitive without being detected by Border Patrol.
On Aug. 19, Perez-Gomez was charged in Nantucket District Court with indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older.
Perez Gomez is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his car after picking her up on Nantucket Island, according to local media. He is due to appear in court again on October 28.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Perez Gomez on September 11. He remains in ICE custody pending his next court date.
Nantucket Island, home to summer homes of some of the nation's wealthiest residents, has seen a series of arrests of illegal immigrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in recent weeks.
For example, last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested an illegal immigrant on Nantucket for allegedly repeatedly raping a child, just days after Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested another illegal immigrant on Nantucket who was charged with three counts of child rape.
Earlier this month, an illegal immigrant from Brazil was charged with five counts of child rape and arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on the neighboring island of Martha's Vineyard.
