The claim: Former President Donald Trump said President Joe Biden’s term would see record illegal immigration and would “disappear” Social Security and Medicare because of the enormous costs.
The verdict: Partly true. A study by the Center for Immigration Studies found that amnesty for illegal immigrants would impose huge costs on Social Security and Medicare.
On Thursday night, Trump accused Biden of destroying Americans’ Social Security and Medicare with his policies of allowing millions of immigrants into the United States.
“He’s trying to destroy Medicare because all these people are coming in,” Trump said. “They’re putting you on Medicare. They’re putting you on Social Security. They’re trying to destroy Social Security.”
“This guy is going to singlehandedly destroy Social Security,” Trump continued. “Millions of people are coming in, trying to put them on Social Security. He’s going to destroy Social Security, he’s going to destroy Medicare.”
Trump’s claim is partly true.
Little is known about whether the Biden administration plans to import immigrants to enroll them in Social Security and Medicare. the study A study by the Center for Immigration Studies said legalizing hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants would impose “enormous costs” on both programs.
“If 10 million illegal immigrants were granted amnesty, the total cost to Social Security and Medicare would be approximately $1.3 trillion, equivalent to a one-time transfer of 6 percent of GDP,” the study states.
A study has found that President Biden’s amnesty, which benefits hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in the U.S., could cost Social Security and Medicare up to $71 billion.
