Illinois FedEx driver killed after fiery crash on interstate

fedex driver A man was ejected from his truck and killed in a fiery crash on an Illinois highway.

At 2:23 a.m. Tuesday, troopers responded to the 52.5 mile marker on Interstate 294 in Deerfield for a crash with injuries, according to Illinois State Police and the Northbrook Fire Department.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they said the semi-truck crashed into a guardrail and burst into flames.

Video footage from the scene showed a smoldering brown semi-truck with its cargo scattered on the interstate with heavy smoke billowing out.

Authorities said the driver of the FedEx truck was violently thrown from the cab and taken to Glenbrook Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Firefighters worked for hours to completely extinguish the fire. Authorities said a semi-truck and the trailer it was towing were destroyed.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Illinois State Police.

The Cook County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the driver. FOX32 reported.

FedEx did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
