An Illinois police lieutenant was injured while leading police on a chase in a stolen car across state lines, crashing into woods and arresting a 16-year-old suspect hiding there, authorities said Tuesday. Announced.
Lake County Sheriff’s K-9 Dax suffered an injury that left him unable to put weight on his hind legs while subduing a suspect in a wooded area in unincorporated Zion, the sheriff’s office said.
The incident began just before midnight Sunday when police in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., began pursuing a stolen vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities said the driver crashed a Pleasant Prairie police car before crashing the stolen vehicle in the 41000 block of North Green Bay Road in Zion, Illinois, about 19 miles south of Pleasant Prairie.

In October, authorities said they had tracked down a man suspected of beating a 39-year-old female family member, leaving her with blood and broken bones. Dax bit the suspect who refused to surrender, and the suspect fired back at Dax. Dax was not injured, but he was examined by a veterinarian.
