Illinois student smiles, giggles after killing couple in DUI crash: video

An Illinois woman who giggled after killing two people in a 2022 drunk driving accident was sentenced last week to 14 years in prison.

In disturbing police bodycam video obtained by Fox News Digital, 24-year-old Stephanie Melgoza can be seen singing and laughing after the tragic crash.

Melgoza, who recorded a blood alcohol level of .264, more than three times the legal limit, fatally beat 55-year-old Paul Prowant and his girlfriend, 43-year-old Andrea Rosewicz, police said. told her, there was nothing to worry about.

According to police reports, the student also told him he was impatient to join a “drunken driving club” and asked for his phone so he could text all his colleagues.

Earlier that night, Mergoza called 911 after hitting a couple outside the bar at full throttle around 10pm.

According to the police report, officers responding to the gruesome scene found the legs of her red Dodge Dart severed and “protruding from the grille.”

Mergoza watched without emotion as the first responders tried in vain to resuscitate the victim.

She told officers she had three vodka drinks and was “just starting the night” when she hit the victim outside of full throttle.

A police report found an open bottle of Tito’s vodka on the floor of her car.

Melgoza pleaded guilty in February to two counts each of aggravated drunk driving and aggravated reckless driving.

At the time of sentencing, she apologized. “I’m really sorry for everything. I’m never going to do that again,” she told the court, according to the Pekin Daily Times. I’m never going to drink again.”
