Illinois Substitute Teacher Accused of Sexual Assault on Minor
An alternative teacher, Alley Bardfield, is facing serious allegations after reportedly having sexual relations with an 11-year-old male student during a “play date” at her residence. Authorities in Illinois indicate that Bardfield attributed blame to the child, suggesting that she had initially made advances towards him.
Bardfield, 34, communicated with the boy through Snapchat, exchanging explicit messages and photographs. The police reports suggest that over several months, she also sent him hundreds of dollars via Cash App.
The boy’s mother became aware of the situation after finding a $700 transaction from Bardfield while checking her son’s phone.
According to records, she confronted her son after learning he had been engaging in sexual activity with Bardfield. Documents revealed he had been involved in unprotected sex with her.
Bardfield, who previously worked at Hope Academy Public Schools in Decatur, pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault last week concerning the incidents that occurred during the 2023-2024 academic year.
She invited the boy for multiple “play dates” in 2023, which subsequently led to two sexual encounters in March 2024.
During police interviews, Bardfield confessed that she initiated sexual advances on the same night the abuse occurred. Following the revelation of the abuse in April, she was promptly dismissed from her position at Decatur Public Schools.
Birdfield appeared in a Macon County courtroom recently for a hearing related to her sentencing, where she struck a partial plea deal with prosecutors. She could face up to 40 years in prison, although the specifics of her sentence remain pending. While predatory criminal sexual assaults can result in sentences of up to 60 years, the prosecution has agreed on a recommendation of 40 years for her case.
A decision regarding her sentence is expected on September 25.
