An Illinois Special Education teacher accused of abusing a 15-year-old student said the victim was threatened because of her “good” appearance.
Christina Formela, a 30-year-old teacher, said she did not assault the teenager while coaching him at Downers Grove South High School in December 2023 after the student's mother discovered the alleged attack through a text message on the phone.
The married teacher reportedly told investigators that a student would use her phone to send inappropriate text messages to “blackmail” her.
“She claimed that one day, [the boy] I was grabbing my phone unattended, and I was entering my passcode… I sent a message to his phone, deleted the message from the phone, and saved it intimidatingly on my phone.”
Formella claims she is “too much” in appearance and compassion, making her a simple target for blackmail.
According to court records, Ferterra said, “She looks good so everyone follows her. [the boy]. ”
