Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Chris Jansing Report” that he will not vote to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
“Republicans only have two votes to lose when the articles of impeachment are debated in the House next week, and we just learned they lost one,” Jansin said.
She asked, “Why did you decide to vote no now?”
Buck said, “Well, this is not a high crime or misdemeanor. It’s not an impeachable offense. It’s a policy difference. Let me first say, there’s a crisis at the border. Law. need to be enforced. But if we start down this path of impeaching Cabinet members, we’re opening a door that Republicans don’t want to open. The next Republican president will face similar scrutiny from Democrats. That would be wrong, and this precedent should not be set.”
Mr. Jansing said: And is there anything that will change your mind? Or when we say a firm no, do we mean a firm no? ”
Buck replied, “Yes, I haven’t changed my mind. I believe I have done my due diligence and am taking a firm stand on this point at this time. I would be happy to look into any new evidence. I don’t think so.”
