I’m Looking for ‘Common Ground’, Don’t ‘Compromise’ ‘Values’ Seeking ‘Commonsense Solutions’

In an interview on CBS' “60 Minutes'' that aired on Monday, 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris responded to criticism for changing her positions on issues such as fracking, immigration and Medicare for All. He said: We are exploring what is possible in terms of people and commonalities. “What the American people really want is leaders who can build consensus, find compromises, understand that it's not a bad thing as long as it doesn't compromise their values, and have common sense.'' That was my approach.

“60 Minutes'' correspondent Bill Whitaker said, “Tell me what the critics and columnists are saying.'' The reason so many voters don't know you is because you take positions on so many things.'' You used to be against fracking, but now you're for it. You used to support lenient immigration policies, and now you're tightening them up. You were in favor of Medicare for All, and now you're not. So many people don't really know what you believe or what you stand for. And I'm sure you've heard that before.

“For the past four years, I have served as Vice President of the United States, traveling our country, listening to our people, and exploring what is possible in terms of common ground,” Harris said. “I believe in consensus. We are a diverse people both geographically and geographically and from different backgrounds, and what Americans really want is to have leaders who can build consensus. That was my approach: finding a middle ground and understanding that it's not a bad thing as long as you don't compromise your values.
