I’m No Longer Bound by Pledge to Support Trump — RNC Is ‘Not the Same’

Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that even if he signs the Republican National Committee (RNC) pledge, he won’t support Donald Trump. He said he may not support the former president.

Anchor Kristen Welker asked, “Did he move to a place where they weren’t going to support him anymore?”

Hayley said: I don’t think so. When he’s in a race, he doesn’t think about losing. Think about continuing to move forward. All I can say is that I don’t think Donald Trump or Joe Biden should be president. I don’t think we need two candidates who are in their 80s. ”

Mr. Welker said: “Let’s try it this way. You signed the pledge, the RNC Pledge, to support the final nominee. Do you still feel bound by that pledge?”

“I’ve always said I have serious concerns about Donald Trump,” Haley said.

she continued. “The RNC pledge, at the point of the debate, we have to bring a candidate to where we stand in order to get on the debate stage, and you said yes. The RNC is no longer the same RNC. Now it’s President Trump’s daughter-in-law.”

Mr. Welker asked, “So you’re no longer bound by that oath?”

Haley said, “No, I think I’ll decide what decisions I make, but that’s not what I’m thinking about.”
