One of the things I really can’t stand about modern marriage dynamics is how some wives treat their husbands like they’re beneath them. Take actor Alec Baldwin, for instance. Though I have my own issues with him, I can’t help but feel a bit sorry for him being married to someone who seems to derive pleasure from putting him down.
His wife, Hilaria, recently posted a video where she sticks her feet in his face, pretty much demanding a foot rub without even a simple request. Alec, looking rather defeated, gives in to her whims. Now, don’t get me wrong—husbands should show love, and hey, I’m always happy to accept a foot rub when it’s offered. But there’s a huge difference between a kind request and what Hilaria did. This isn’t just a one-off thing; she often seizes the chance to turn someone once described as one of Hollywood’s finest into a running joke.
Men really deserve respect from their wives. Sure, I’m not claiming Alec is an upstanding gentleman—there are many reasons people might look down on him. Still, she chose to marry him, and unless there’s something hidden that justifies this disrespect, it feels like she’s trying to assert some dominance.
Men have their issues, but it seems our society has somehow normalized the idea that wives can disrespect their husbands. Hilaria isn’t the only one who behaves like this; many women appear to take pleasure in belittling their partners. Unfortunately, this kind of behavior only serves to poison what could be a loving marriage.
Again, it’s not solely about the foot rub. It’s everything else that Hilaria does that makes me want to check in on Alec. She really should be held accountable for this, but of course, she probably won’t be. Quite a few women will likely find it amusing and commend her for having control over him.
We should be our husbands’ best friends and strongest supporters, encouraging them to be strong and self-assured in the outside world. Teasing him privately is one thing, but sharing a video like this for everyone to see—that just crosses a line.
