Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey has disclosed that he is currently without a permanent home several years after the scandal surrounding sexual assault allegations impacted his career. “I live in a hotel, I live in an Airbnb,” he stated, referencing his past work on Netflix’s House of Cards.

In a recent interview, Spacey remarked that he lost his home in Baltimore, Maryland—where he had resided for over a decade—due to soaring costs over the past seven years.

“There was very little coming in and a lot going out,” he shared.

During a previous interview with Piers Morgan, Spacey became emotional while discussing the challenges he faced amid the #MeToo movement and the significant legal debt he accrued from various allegations.

“I’ve gotten through it,” he reflected. “In some strange way, I feel like I’m back at the beginning. Just back to where the work was.” He added, “Everything is in storage. If things continue to improve, I hope to decide where to settle again someday.”

Despite being effectively blacklisted from Hollywood for sex crimes—though acquitted in court—Spacey explained, “I live in hotels, I live in Airbnbs, I go where the work is. I literally don’t have a home. That’s what I’m trying to say.”

When asked about his financial state, the 66-year-old actor admitted, “It’s not very good.”

Spacey expressed that although bankruptcy has been discussed, they haven’t reached that stage yet.

Even with the Hollywood blacklist, he mentioned that people still frequently approach him with the question, “When are you going back to work?”

Spacey’s interactions with new filmmakers and emerging talent continue; those who he says would not typically engage with larger agencies, like CAA, are still eager to collaborate with him, including a former agent who let him go shortly after the allegations surfaced.

The actor has also been involved in six films over the last three years and is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. He drew a parallel between himself and Dalton Trumbo, another figure who faced Hollywood’s backlash, although there still hasn’t been any indication of a cancelation since the scandal erupted in 2017.

“We’re in touch with some very influential individuals who want me back in the industry. It will happen at the right time,” Spacey stated.

He proposed that the industry is likely waiting for a figure of great stature to give the go-ahead, saying, “I think that if someone like Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino were to call my manager tomorrow, it would change everything.”

“When someone of that level of talent reaches out, I feel incredibly honored,” he noted, adding, “And I really believe it will happen.”

In 2017, Spacey faced nine charges related to allegations of sexual crimes against four men from 2004 to 2013. He denied these accusations and was found not guilty on all counts in July 2023. Additionally, he was acquitted in a 2022 New York jury decision regarding a $40 million lawsuit filed by fellow actor Anthony Rapp concerning events from three decades ago.
