Day Care Sign Fiasco in Minneapolis Area

A day care center in the Minneapolis region has amended its notorious sign, which incorrectly spelled “Quality Learning Center.” This error gained attention after YouTube journalist Nick Shirley highlighted it while investigating potential fraud in Minnesota.

Shirley, along with another individual, approached the location labeled Quality Learning Center, only to find that “Learning” was misspelled on the sign. Interestingly, although the center received state child care subsidies, it didn’t seem to be operational during their visit. This raised suspicions that it might be involved in a larger fraudulent scheme affecting parts of Minnesota’s Somali community.

For many observers, the spelling mistake appeared to signal a deeper issue of fraud in the state.

Among the critics was U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, who expressed her concerns on social media, noting that a Minnesota operation with the misspelled word had received $1.9 million this year under false pretenses.

McMahon remarked on the “breathtaking failures” that had occurred under government oversight.

In response, the daycare has defended itself, denying any illegal activities.

On Monday night, Fox News captured footage of individuals correcting the sign.

Earlier in the day, Ibrahim Ali, who claimed to be the manager of Quality Learning Center, denied any wrongdoing. He maintained that the center is still functional and has never closed, which contradicts reports from the Department of Children, Youth, and Families that stated the center had shut down earlier in the month.

Ali criticized Shirley for supposedly visiting outside business hours, which are from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays.

He expressed his frustration, stating, “Are you trying to document that we are committing fraud, or are you trying to put Somali names and fraud in the same sentence? That’s what has really hurt us over the last few days.”

Additionally, he attributed the misspelling to the installer’s error, saying, “We messed up the sign and we’re paying someone to make it right. He installed it incorrectly, so we’re having him redo it. He promised it would be fixed this week.”

Reports have surfaced indicating that Quality Learning Center was previously under scrutiny for accumulating 95 violations between 2019 and 2023 from the National Welfare Department, as detailed by sources. These infractions included inadequate safety measures and missing records for several children. Current licensing documents indicate that the center’s license is valid until the end of 2026.
