Teen Rescued After Falling from NYC Bridge
A 16-year-old boy fell approximately 50 feet from a bridge shaft in New York City while attempting to film a TikTok prank on Monday night. A team of over 70 firefighters and paramedics managed to pull him to safety, and he is currently recovering in a hospital.
The teenager was admitted to Weill Cornell Medical Center in serious condition, but according to the FDNY, he is now stable, as reported.
Photos taken during the rescue show the boy being lifted from a shaft near the Queensboro Bridge, highlighting the efforts of the rescue team.
“This situation required a high-angle rescue operation, which made it both challenging and resource-intensive,” said FDNY Deputy Commissioner Nicholas Corrado during a press briefing. “We needed specialized equipment to monitor air quality and establish safe points of access.”
Approximately 75 first responders quickly arrived at the bridge after a 911 call, only to find the teenager trapped. One firefighter described the atmosphere at the scene, stating, “It was intense. There was a lot of adrenaline. But this is exactly what we prepare for.”
While it took some time to locate the boy, rescuers found a shoe and traces of blood nearby, prompting concerns for his safety. “We communicated these findings to assess the rescue strategy,” the firefighter said.
A woman familiar with the boy mentioned that he had climbed the bridge with friends but had become separated after the fall. The exact circumstances of how he fell into the mine shaft remain unclear.
TikTok has faced criticism for promoting potentially hazardous stunts, raising questions about the platform’s influence on young users.
