Federal Raids at Hyundai EV Factory in Georgia

On Thursday, federal immigration agents raided a Hyundai Electric Vehicle factory in Georgia, resulting in the arrest of over 400 individuals identified as “illegal aliens.” This operation is part of a broader enforcement initiative by the Trump administration aimed at addressing illegal immigration.

A post by the Atlanta ATF mentioned the collaboration of various agencies, including the FBI, DEA, and ICE, in this large-scale immigration operation at the Hyundai Megasite Battery Plant in Bryan County. The tweet highlighted the arrests, which underscored their focus on community safety.

The factory, which started producing electric vehicles last year, has approximately 1,200 employees.

South Korea, the parent company of Hyundai, expressed “concern and regret” over the situation. Lee Jae Eun, a representative from the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that their economic activities in the U.S. and the rights of their workforce should not be compromised unfairly, during a press conference. The ministry communicated these sentiments through the U.S. Embassy in Seoul.

In response to the raids, South Korea dispatched officials to both Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, highlighting their involvement and oversight.

These factory raids align with President Trump’s aggressive strategy for mass deportations, which has so far included operations at various locations such as restaurants, automotive shops, construction sites, and farms.

Concerns about illegal practices were raised regarding a site in Eravel, Georgia. Steven Schrank, the special agent in charge of Georgia’s HSI, noted they have conducted operations carefully up to this point and hope to expand their efforts soon.

Eravel is situated roughly 27 miles west of Savannah, Georgia.

Hyundai’s spokesperson, Michael Stewart, mentioned that the company is cooperating with law enforcement and is dedicated to adhering to all labor and immigration guidelines, as reported to NBC News.
