Immigration surge under Biden is largest in US history: NYT

The immigration surge under President Biden is the largest in U.S. history, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

America's net annual migrationAccording to the Times, the Congressional Budget Office announced that admissions minus departures averaged 2.4 million people from 2021 to 2023. Overall, net immigration is likely to exceed 8 million people under the Biden administration, the Times reported.

The arrival rate from 2021 to 2023 was the fastest compared to the rest of U.S. history and the fastest jump in about 175 years, according to the Times.

U.S. politics has increasingly focused on immigration and border security in recent years, with President-elect Trump making the issue central to his recent presidential bid and Republicans lining up with Biden over his handling of the border issue. He harshly criticizes the government. Stephen Miller, the president-elect's pick to be his deputy chief of staff for policy, said last Sunday that President Trump's top priority is mass deportation.

In a recent appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures,” Miller told Fox News' Maria Bartiromo that the president-elect “will issue a series of executive orders that will close the border and launch the largest deportation operation in U.S. history.” “He said he has a plan.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Monday that the border security bill should be a “top priority for the Senate Appropriations Committee” in the next Congress.

“Stephen Miller was right when he said the House and Senate should first pass a border security bill through the budget reconciliation process,” Graham said in a post on social platform X.

“While I support spending limits and tax cuts, my top priority, and my top priority on the Senate Budget Committee, is to secure our broken borders,” the incoming Budget Committee chairman added. “This bill is transformative, it will be paid for, and it will be the first to be implemented.”
