In 2025 let’s let go of ‘perfection’

perfection. We pretend to love it, but we despise it.

It is the most dire situation. Inhuman, unforgiving, untouchable. There is only one way forward from there. How can something that is perfect become more than perfect? You can't do that. But it can be incomplete.

The perfect human body, the perfect night's sleep, the purest diet: don't live for life, live for perfection.

And it definitely will be. And we teeter at the dreaded point of waiting to collapse, knowing that the perfection we hate but pretend to love will die sooner or later.

table talk

But oh thank God for that moment. The first scratch on the table. That first wound. Those first tears. That first problem. All those mistakes free us from that terrible vise, that harrowing conundrum of desperately wanting perfection. I would die to keep everything right. Giving something to make sure everything is as it should be.

We may pretend to be sad about the mistake, but deep down we thank God for the stain. We thank God for freeing us from that perfect prison.

This isn't really about the table. This is about life. That's what it's all about. In our time, we are stuck in a futile pursuit of perfection.

Of course, that's part of consumerism. If something gets dirty, just go buy another one. If you don't have cash, you can deactivate your card. That can't happen, right? It would look nicer without it. You need something new, but the perfect one is within reach.

The same goes for social media. We look at our phones and see their perfection. We see beautiful beaches and beautiful people. We are witnessing a life that we wish was ours. And how imperfect ours is.

“Look how pretty that house in Lille is. Ours is a wreck.” Now we are unhappy. We thought we had enough, but we still don't have enough. We thought it was a good thing, but it wasn't. need to make it perfect.

off camera confusion

And of course, that's all on the surface. On social media, you never see what's off camera. Clothes on the floor, piles on the sofa, dust in the corners of the room, trash bags next to the door. We are all part of this problem. look? He is both the perpetrator and the victim at the same time.

It is also a quest to live forever. Extended lifespan. Health monitoring and thorough testing. If I guess all the numbers correctly, I can live forever. No one really says that last part, but there's some meaning to it. The perfect human body, the perfect night's sleep, the purest diet: Don't live for life, live for perfection. worship and fear. It hated perfection.

How many people are unable to live the life they want because they are afraid of failure? How many people are missing out? Will you take action? Why not ask a girl? Do you want to do it?

How many of us live our lives hedging every last bet? Only the safest option is the smartest option. It is best to live by making fewer mistakes. yes. It's near perfect.

Bless this mess

What a prison! How terrible! It is anti-life and anti-action. Benjamin Franklin said, “Nothing is certain in this world except death and taxes.'' “There is nothing certain in this world except chaos and drama,” I say. In other words, “There is nothing certain in this world other than imperfection.''

Understanding this, accepting this as reality, is the first step to actually living. Instead of being afraid of making mistakes, pursue and live your own life. After all, we only have one.

It may sound trite, but it's true. It won't be perfect. It's going to be tough, there's going to be ups and downs and twists and turns, but that's okay. It's all part of it. That's the beauty of it.

Overcoming modern addiction to perfection is the key to taking control of your life. It's strange how letting go (of perfection) is the key to controlling (what matters). It's about ordering things properly. It means coming to accept the reality of life.

Previously, this reality was much harder to avoid. perfection? Try to survive. But for many of us living in a technology-infused society, it may take a conscious effort to see through that illusion.

New table and first scratch. It's difficult before the stain appears, but after that it's easy. And it gets easier and easier. With each blemish, perfection fades further away. It's in the rearview mirror and now it's getting smaller and smaller. It will soon be out of sight. Goodbye.

In the end, we have life left. A beautiful but imperfect life.
