Incoming British ambassador to US praises Trump in op-ed

The incoming British ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson, has praised President-elect Donald Trump in a new op-ed, predicting that the upcoming presidency will be one of the most “momentous” in recent years.

In a Fox News op-ed, Mandelson said, “America's allies will listen to the message sent by the American people and adjust their partnership to work with the United States and protect the common interests that unite us.” There is a need.” published on friday.

Mr Mandelson, who will succeed Dame Karen Pearce, wrote that he saw three areas where the long-standing partnership between Britain and the US could be expanded: national security, economic growth and foreign policy.

“My 50 years as a politician and then as a businessman have taught me to always listen to my constituents and my customers,” he wrote in an editorial. “Alliances between foreign countries need to do the same. Foreign actors must evolve rapidly to hear these messages and get them to their peoples. The Atlantic Alliance must not simply enjoy a glorious past. and must adapt to new threats and technological challenges.”

Mr Mandelson, a Labor politician, insisted the US-UK national security partnership must be “more clear about how we keep our people safe”.

Referring to the money spent by European countries on defense following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he said: “The UK has been at the forefront of urging NATO allies to increase their defense spending, and will continue to ensure that partners shoulder the burden of defense spending.'' I will continue to insist that they do so.” But he stressed that “Americans are right to ask whether NATO members can do more to alleviate America's excessive burden.”

He praised the two countries' long-standing alliance and continued: “We must work together more to invent, develop and industrialize tomorrow's technologies.”

Mr. Mandelson praised President Trump for having a “straight-talking, deal-making instinct” and said allies should “bring entrepreneurial thinking and urgency to foreign policy solutions that require real-world solutions.” He praised the move and said it should be seen as an “opportunity.”

On foreign policy, Mr Mandelson said the West should not allow a nuclear-armed Iran and warned that China's advances on the world stage “now directly challenge Western governments and our values.”

“The Chinese government that I have observed intensively over the past 20 years has become more aggressive abroad, more dominant at home and in many areas, and is now directly challenging Western governments and our values. “There is,” he wrote.

The incoming diplomat said that among Britain's closest allies, the United States is an “older and older nation open to new ways of dealing with today's world to protect, enrich and build opportunities for Americans and our own people alike.” I will find a partner.”
