Incoming Trump press secretary says day one executive order may tackle Title 42

President-elect Trump's incoming press secretary, Caroline Leavitt, said Trump's first day executive order could address Title 42.

Mr. Levitt appeared on Fox News' “Sunday Morning Futures” and outlined what to expect on President Trump's first day in office next month.

“He will use the power of his pen to secure our southern border, expedite permits for fracking and drilling, and deliver on many of the promises he made to the American people during his campaign to take executive action. 'Stop some of the transgender insanity that's sweeping this country,''' Levitt said.

Host Maria Bartiromo pressed Levitt about what executive actions President Trump plans to take regarding immigration.

“Well, securing the southern border, perhaps looking at Title 42. Many of these executive actions are still being reviewed by our policy team and attorneys,” she said.

Title 41 was a controversial Trump administration policy that allowed asylum seekers to be deported. This policy was implemented during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It ended in May 2023, after the pandemic public health emergency officially ended. The order comes more than a year after the Biden administration first sought to rescind it.

The possibility of re-implementing Title 42 is not President Trump's only immigration plan.

As mentioned on the campaign trail, the president-elect is planning a mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, but experts question whether it is possible and what the economic impact will be.

“President Trump will also begin the largest mass deportation of illegal criminals in American history,” Levitt said. “By empowering federal and local law enforcement to work together to identify, apprehend, and deport illegal criminals known to be roaming freely in our country, the President will immediately I can do that.”
