‘Incredibly Disappointing’ Johnson Violated Hastert Rule

Washington, DC – Congressman Byron Donald (R-FL) Chip Roy (R-Texas) on Saturday accused House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Texas) of violating Hastert’s rules after the $60 billion Ukraine aid bill passed without support from the Republican majority. (Republican, Louisiana).

A long-standing rule states that the Republican chair can only bring a bill to a floor vote if a majority of the Republican conference supports it. The rule is intended to prevent Republican chairmen from colluding with Democrats to pass legislation. But most Republicans did not support the Ukraine bill.

Meanwhile, there were 101 Republicans and 210 Democrats. I voted That led to 112 Republicans voting against sending it to the Senate, forcing Johnson to vote again weeks after passing a $1.2 trillion government funding plan that was rejected by most of the chamber. This means that you have broken the starting rule.

In a brief exclusive conversation with Breitbart News on Saturday after the passage of Johnson’s foreign aid package, Donald called Johnson’s rule-breaking “incredibly disappointing.”

“It shouldn’t have happened this way because we had the time and opportunity to put the various packages together and that time wasn’t taken,” Donald said. “We have to do better and get this back on track.”

Shortly after, Breitbart News also asked Roy for his thoughts on the breach at a press conference on the steps of the Capitol.

“Well, I mean, if that’s true — and I’m taking everyone at its word that it’s true — that’s a big problem,” Roy said. “And it was pretty predictable, but I knew it was close. And it’s like Omni[bus] A few weeks ago; it’s just not the right direction. ”

The breakdown of Republican votes on the Ukraine supplementary bill is the same as in the March general election, with 112 Republicans voting against it and 101 voting for it.

Ahead of that vote, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) filed a non-privileged motion to resign against Johnson. Mr. Green has growing support for his motion and can privilege it at any time and force a vote within two days.

Now that the Ukraine Assistance Act has been passed, it will be combined into a single package and sent to the Senate, along with supplementary legislation on the Taiwan, Israel, and Power for the 21st Century Peace Act. President Joe Biden called on the Democratic-controlled Senate to quickly pass the bill, saying he would “immediately sign it into law” once it is introduced.
