An incumbent Republican in Iowa seeking re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives accused his Democratic opponent of “wasting taxpayer money” by calling for a recount in a close race.

The Associated Press has not yet called a race in Iowa's 1st Congressional District, with Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) trailing Democratic challenger Christina Bohanan by just 801 votes. is leading. Bohannan called for a recount last week.

“Four counties in IA-01 have completed their recounts and I received two votes. Once again Christina Bohanan and the Democrats are wasting taxpayer money,” Miller-Meeks posted on X Thursday did. She has previously claimed victory and her camp is confident in her lead.

Congressional election observers from the House Administration Committee were sent to Iowa this week to monitor uncalled races.

Bohannan's campaign said in a statement last week that it wanted to ensure “all voters' voices are heard” and promised to “accept the outcome regardless of the outcome.”

Republicans already have a razor-thin House majority, but a Republican victory in Iowa would give the caucus more room for dissent without disrupting President-elect Trump's agenda in the next Congress. Dew.

Republican incumbents retained three other Iowa seats, including the hotly contested 3rd District, where Zach Nunn fended off a challenge from Democrat Lannon Buckham.

Republican incumbents Ashley Hinson won in the 2nd District and Randy Feenstra won in the 4th District. Hinson defeated Democrat Sarah Corkery. Feenstra defeated Democrat Ryan Melton.

Democrats add five more judicial nominees to Biden

So far, Republicans have gained 219 seats in the House, while Democrats hold 213.

Two unannounced races remain in California's 13th and 45th Congressional Districts, where Republican incumbents are narrowly defending their seats.

The race in Iowa's 1st Congressional District will be a rematch. Miller-Meeks previously defeated Bohannan in 2022 by a much larger margin of 7 percentage points.

Miller-Meeks was first elected to Congress in 2020, defeating Democrat Rita Hart by just six votes to represent Iowa's 2nd District.
