Independents Back Donald Trump over Biden in New York by Double Digits

Former President Donald Trump has a double-digit lead over President Joe Biden among independents in New York state, according to a new Siena College poll.

Overall Survey Indicated In Democratic states, Biden’s approval rating is a net negative: Only 42% approve of Biden and 53% view him unfavorably, for a net negative favorability rating of -11%. In May, 45% viewed Biden favorably and 50% viewed him unfavorably, for a net negative of -5%. That means Biden’s net negative rating has increased by 6 percentage points in the last month.

A Siena University poll found that favorability ratings ranged from 37% to 59%, down from 39% to 56% in May.

In the head-to-head race, Biden is ahead of Trump, but in New York state, Biden’s approval rating is just single digits at 47% and Trump’s at 39%, a difference of eight percentage points. In May, the difference between the two was nine points, and in April it was 10 points.

Perhaps even more surprising is Trump’s advantage among independents in the Empire State, where he has a double-digit lead over Biden, leading Biden with 45 percent of independents in the state, while Biden has 28 percent of independents, giving the former president a 17-point advantage in a traditionally Democratic state.

“Biden leads among independents, 45 to 28 percent,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg. Said.

“The gender gap has widened again, with men supporting Trump 46% to 42% and women supporting Biden 51% to 33%. White voters are at both ends of the spectrum, with Biden having a huge lead among non-white voters, but Trump receiving support from 29% of black voters and 26% of Latino voters,” he added.

The poll was conducted among 805 New York state voters between June 12-17, 2024. It has a margin of error of +/- 4.1 percentage points and was conducted well after Trump’s historic rally in neighboring New Jersey, which drew more than 100,000 people.

A few weeks later, Trump held a historic rally in the Bronx, where the crowd cheered, “We love Trump!” and “Four more years!” It was another warning to Democrats.
