India and Pakistan Reach Agreement for Complete and Immediate Ceasefire Following US-Mediated Discussions, Trump States.

Ceasefire Agreement Between India and Pakistan

India and Pakistan have reached a “full and immediate ceasefire” after overnight discussions facilitated by the United States, President Donald Trump announced on Saturday.

Trump shared the news early Saturday morning, expressing satisfaction with the outcome: “We are pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire after a long night of talks mediated by the US. Congratulations to both countries for using common sense and great intelligence. Thank you for paying attention to this issue.”

This ceasefire follows several days of escalating tension between the two nuclear-armed nations. There have been cross-border missile strikes and drone attacks in regions that have not seen direct conflict in decades, raising international alarm and concern.

The surprise announcement from Trump highlights a contrasting approach to the situation compared to a recent statement made by Vice President J.D. Vance just days earlier. Vance had mentioned, “What we can do is try to encourage these people to escalate a bit, but we are basically not going to be involved in a war that has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it.”

Specifics of the negotiations are unclear at this point, including who represented each country and if there are any terms attached to the ceasefire agreement. The Kashmir region has long been a contentious point between India and Pakistan, with both nations claiming the territory.

Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishak Dar, and India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed the ceasefire on Saturday. Dar stated, “Pakistan and India immediately agreed to a ceasefire. Pakistan has always worked hard for the peace and security of the region without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”

Jaishankar added, “India and Pakistan today have shown their understanding of firing and halting military action. India has consistently maintained a solid and uncompromising attitude towards terrorism in all forms and symptoms, and will continue to do so.”
