India v Bangladesh: T20 Cricket World Cup – live | T20 World Cup 2024

Per my preamble, this is what Bangladesh needed. They’ve made one change, leaving out Taskin! Surely that’s because of injury rather than omission or team balance? Rohit says they need to assess the surface as quickly as possible before getting on with it. They are unchanged from the side that defeated Afghanistan.

This looks a mismatch. India have seldom needed their top gear during this tournament but it’s clear that it is a very impressive one. As for Bangladesh, after advancing from the weakest group they were bullied by Australia two days ago to begin their Super 8s campaign. If the favourites salute in this Saturday morning fixture in Antigua, it will guarantee that the boys in blue are semi-final bound.

Bangladesh’s progress to the second stage of this World Cup was earned in large part by their lively and capable fast bowling trio: Tanzim Hasan Shakib, Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman. Their best chance here is to bowl first and put Kohli and co under pressure. Under almost any other scenario, the Tigers need a lot to go right.

Important Events

2nd innings: India 23-0 (Rohit 12, Kohli 11). Win with spin? Shakib bats for the second over. They’re all in with this approach. Rohit sweeps for the second time, this time hitting the ball forward square for a second bounce. Kohli turns later in the over, coming down the track to a ball that angles onto leg stump. Six times in a row Over midwicket! The perfect scenario for India today would be not only to win the match but also to get Kohli to score again at the middle. 15 over – This pair is absent.

1st innings: India 8-0 (Rohit 7, Kohli 1). Mahedi caught Rohit in the air with his first ball but still fielded it up and smashed it over mid-off for two. He found space to smash it with the third ball but then an off-break followed and Kohli was on strike with a single that dropped to the ground. He took his tournament tally to 30 with a single off his second ball but wavered for a moment before his team went on to win. With the final ball, Rohit swept it over the keeper for four.

The players are on the field! Rohit and Kohli. Off-spinner Mahedi Hasan will take the first over. It will be interesting to see the strategy they are adopting here. Right… play!

It’s a shame they lost the little ball car for the Euros, but at least they have a ball track for this tournament. I’m heading to the center with the players for the national anthem. Last week I went to the Bangladesh v South Africa match on Long Island and heard the Bangladeshi crowd go all out for the anthem, but for obvious reasons* there’s no such cheering in Antigua today.

*Antigua is small, but New York is not.

I missed the part where Rohit said India would be in to bat at the toss. As I’ve said before, if I were an international cricket captain (available if selected!) everytime I said if I lost the coin toss, I would do whatever was asked of me.

Ian Chappell: “So you’ve lost the toss at the Gabba, it’s 44 degrees and you’re going out to field on the road. How do you feel about that tough task?”

Me: “Oh, great. We were going to have a bowl anyway, so it’s fine.”

This group is pretty calm. If India and Australia beat Bangladesh and Afghanistan respectively, they will progress to the knockout stages, with their fixtures set to be decided two days from now. But the situation on the other side of the draw is much more uncertain. South Africa, who won both their Super 8 matches, are practically on the brink of death after a hectic run by the Windies last night. Check out Daniel Norcross’ analysis tonight to make sense of it all. Final Word Pod.

Bangladesh win the toss and decide to bowl first.

As mentioned before, this is what Bangladesh needed. They made one change by dropping Taskin. Is this due to injury rather than a lack of players or a team balance issue? Rohit says they need to assess the condition of the court as soon as possible before taking on the match. The team that beat Afghanistan remains unchanged.

preamble

Adam Collins

This looks like an underdog match. India have hardly needed to hit top gear in this tournament, but it has proved to be a very impressive display. Meanwhile, Bangladesh, after emerging from the weakest group, were stunned by Australia two days before the start of their Super 8 campaign. A win for the favourites this Saturday morning in Antigua would guarantee a place in the semi-finals for the boys in blue.

Bangladesh’s progress to the second stage of the World Cup is largely down to their lively and talented fast bowler trio of Tanzim Hasan Shakib, Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman. Bangladesh’s best chance here is to bat first and put pressure on Kohli and co. In any other scenario, the Tigers need a lot of things to go right.

The toss will begin at 3pm (BST) with the first ball at 3.30pm.
