On Monday, Jaime West, a Democratic candidate from Indiana, confessed that she had consumed “three beers” prior to a disjointed interview that went viral, during which she declared her intent to fire all Republicans.
West, who is running for a county council position in Fayetteville, asserted on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” that she “wasn’t that intoxicated” when she delivered a rambling speech at a local forum on October 9.
When host Piers Morgan pointed out that many viewers thought she appeared drunk during her chaotic segment, West reluctantly admitted to having had “a Coors Light.”
Morgan, clearly skeptical, pressed her further, questioning if she truly had just one beer before the ill-fated TV appearance.
West then conceded that she had actually enjoyed “a couple.”
“I was nervous! I was going into a room full of Republicans,” she explained, trying to rationalize her decision to drink beforehand.
Morgan subsequently encouraged West to be completely forthcoming about how many drinks she’d really had before their awkward exchange.
“Alright, three. Three beers. What do you want me to say, man? I had three beers,” she admitted.
Despite her admission, the Indiana Democrat maintained that she “wasn’t that intoxicated” and asserted she still “knew what I’m talking about when it comes to Indiana politics.”
She further commented that she was sober during their conversation, and when Morgan pressed her on whether there was anything she would like to take back from her viral appearance, West stood firm.
“I say it all the time – I’m not friends with [Republicans]. I don’t like them. They voted for all of this that’s happening to our country,” West stated.
