Indiana Fever fall to Liberty without Caitlin Clark before All-Star weekend

Indiana Fever Faces New York Liberty Before All-Star Break

New York – The Indiana Fever struggled against the New York Liberty in their last game before the All-Star break, as star guard Kate Linklark was sidelined with a groin injury.

Breanna Stewart led the Liberty, scoring 24 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and providing seven assists in a decisive 98-77 win over the Fever. Sabrina Ionescu contributed with 15 points and nine assists.

The Liberty maintained control for much of the game. Unfortunately, Clark was ruled out just before the match due to her injury, marking her third absence this season.

Head coach White mentioned, “We faced adversity, no doubt. But we’ve talked about it from day one—no matter what challenges come our way, every team deals with something.” He emphasized the need for his team to build consistency and find the competitive edge needed.

With the All-Star break approaching, there’s talk of a “reset” for the Fever. Linklark is expected to compete in the three-point contest and is named captain for Saturday’s All-Star Game, although her recent injury raises concerns about her participation.

White remarked, “We haven’t discussed this weekend yet,” indicating that while imaging had been done, they would evaluate things further. This is her second groin-related issue this season—Clark had also missed games early in the season due to a quad injury.

“Honestly, it’s hard to say if it’s a re-injury or something different,” White added, noting the complexities of groin and quad injuries.

After the loss to the Liberty, the Fever fell to 4-6 without Clark. Kelsey Mitchell was the top scorer for Indiana with 16 points. The Fever will regroup after the All-Star break and are set to return to action Tuesday in Brooklyn.
