‘Indiana Jones’ fedora expected to fetch up to $500K at auction

Indiana Jones’ fedora from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” may be worth more than its weight in gold.

The hat, worn by Harrison Ford in the 1984 action adventure film, is expected to fetch up to $500,000 when it goes up for auction next month.

“This is one of the most incredible Indiana Jones pieces we’ve ever handled,” enthused Brandon Allinger, chief operating officer of auction house The Prop Store.

“It has all the details you’d expect from an Indiana Jones hat, namely, it has ‘IJ’ stamped on the inside, which is what every other authentic hat we’ve seen has. It has a worn-in feel to it, and there are some cosmetic marks on the front of the inner hatband.”

The sable rabbit felt hat is a legacy of Dean Ferrandini, Harrison Ford’s stuntman, who passed away last year.

The fedora is one of 1,900 pieces of memorabilia from a variety of movies and TV shows that will be auctioned off at The Prop Store’s second annual Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction.

Another important piece from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” is the original Sankara Stone — “the sacred stone that Indiana Jones seeks out in the film and tries to bring back to the villagers,” Alinger said. It’s expected to sell for $25,000 to $50,000.

Other items expected to attract attention include the leather jacket worn by John Travolta in “Saturday Night Fever,” the suit worn by Dan Aykroyd in “The Blues Brothers” and the Ghostface costume from the original “Scream.”

The auction also includes props and costumes from a wide range of TV shows, from “Laverne & Shirley” to “Breaking Bad.”
