A manager at Chicago’s Royal University was choked by his 19-year-old son after he received an eviction notice, court documents show.
Connor Cobbold is scheduled to go on trial this summer on charges he killed his Indiana mother, Chanel Barnes, after she served her then-19-year-old son with an eviction notice on February 5, according to online court records.
To avoid eviction, Kobbold had to clean his room, help his mother clean the common areas of the house, and find a job within 30 days. Post-Tribune report.

That same day, police in Valparaiso, Indiana, were dispatched to the mother and child’s home after Cobbold had called 911 five times, according to court documents reviewed by Fox News Digital.
When police arrived at the Diamond Boulevard home, Cobbold demanded that officers handcuff him and put him in the back of a patrol car, documents state.
The officer noticed a shallow wound on the kobold’s face.
Cobbold allegedly told officers there was a dead person in the house on the corner and that he “killed someone in that house.” WGN 9 reported:.

Valparaiso police found Barnes inside the home, unconscious, not breathing and with “serious injuries.” Police said she died from her injuries two days later at a hospital.
“Before Barnes died, doctors told police she appeared to have suffered ‘significant’ brain damage,” WGN9 reported.
According to court documents, Barnes’ death was ruled as asphyxiation due to manual strangulation. Cobbold, now 20, has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault and murder in connection with her mother’s death, according to online court records.
Cobbold, who is currently being held without bail in the Porter County Jail, is scheduled to appear in court in August. The Post-Tribute reported that he applied for a waiver to defend himself in February, but online court records show he was appointed a public defender in April.

Kobbold will begin studying at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2022, according to his LinkedIn page.
Burns previously served as vice president for academic affairs at Loyola University Chicago, according to the university’s website.

“Chanel was an incredibly witty, kind and poised person,” colleague Karen Paciello said in a statement. “She had exceptional abilities in both strategic planning and execution. She was a trusted advisor to many in the Advancement department and across the university. We will all miss her and are deeply saddened by this loss for our department and the university.”
The 43-year-old was a self-taught classical piano student and “a voracious diary writer, writing poems and stories that demonstrated her creative and organizational skills,” her obituary said.
