Carmel, Indiana (WXIN) – Emergency responders found Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay unresponsive and having difficulty breathing when they were called to his home in Carmel, Indiana, last month, and a police report said he had “suspected of an overdose.” It is recorded that there is a suspicion that
According to Carmel Police Department records obtained through an Access to Public Records Act (APRA) request by Nexstar's WXIN, emergency responders responded to the fire station around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 8 to “assist with firefighting efforts.” was dispatched to his home. [officials] There was a man who was unresponsive and breathing, but turned blue. ” The man was 64-year-old Irsay, the report said.
The story said someone found Irsai passed out in the bathroom. He was moved to bed but was unresponsive. The report said Irsai had trouble breathing.
“Mr. Irsai lost consciousness with abnormal breathing (labored breathing), weak pulse, and was cold to the touch,” the responding officer wrote in the report.
One of the officers tried to wake Irsay by rubbing his sternum and applying a type of painful stimulus, but he did not respond. Before doctors arrived, officers administered naloxone, commonly known by the brand name Narcan, to him. He had little reaction to it, the report said. Naloxone is used to treat opiate overdoses.
Officers attempted to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) to shock Irsay's heart, but paramedics quickly took over and transported him to a local hospital.
“At this time, it is unknown what Mr. Irsay was ingesting prior to our arrival,” the officer wrote in his report, marking the incident as an “overdose.”
The report noted that Irsai was prescribed a number of medications. The prescription was compiled with documentation provided as part of the APRA request. Documents also show that a body camera recorded the incident.

Irsai appeared at a Pittsburgh Steelers game on Dec. 16, but has rarely been seen in public since. The Colts announced last week that he was “being treated for a severe respiratory illness.” As a result, he missed a scheduled Jim Irsay Band performance in Los Angeles.
The Colts said Irsay is “receiving excellent treatment” and looks forward to “get back on stage as soon as possible.”
The team issued an additional statement Wednesday when asked about Irsay's health.
Mr. Irsai continues to recover from a respiratory illness. We will not be commenting further on his personal health and ask that the privacy of Jim and his family continue to be respected. ”
Irsay has been open about his own struggle with addiction.
Mr. Irsay admitted in 2002 that he had been addicted to painkillers, which began in 1995, when rumors of a federal investigation swirled. He said several surgeries had left him with chronic pain and he was seeking treatment for the problem.
In a recent interview with HBO's “Real Sports,” Ursai told the show that he has been to rehab at least 15 times and recalled a previous overdose that nearly killed him.
“I tried to detox myself and put a mixture of drugs that I didn't know anything about, and all of a sudden I started having slurred speech. Then I got a code blue and stopped breathing,” Irsay said. “And they revived me, and the doctor said, 'Jim, you're the lucky one, because I was effectively signing the death certificate.'”
In 2014, Carmel police stopped Irsay for erratic driving. Prescription drugs and more than $29,000 in cash were found inside the car. A subsequent toxicology report revealed that Irsai had oxycodone, hydrocodone, and drugs used to treat anxiety in his system.
In September 2014, Irsai pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge, was fined by the NFL, and was suspended for six games.
