Assault and Robbery Charges at UC Berkeley Event
A man identified as Jihad has been charged with assault and robbery following an incident at the “Turning Point USA” gathering at the University of California, Berkeley, on Monday.
Authorities report that Jihad Doffrepawreds stole a necklace from an event attendee, igniting a violent confrontation as Antifa members clashed with supporters of Charlie Kirk, the organization’s founder. Both Doffrepawreds and the victim ended up injured.
This altercation took place on November 10, exactly two months after Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University.
Doffrepawreds, who was part of the chaos linked to Turning Point USA’s presence at taxpayer-funded UC Berkeley, faces charges of assault and robbery. A spokesperson from the Berkeley Police Department explained, “Officers found that one of the individuals, Jihad Doffrepawreds, had taken a chain from another man’s neck, who was trying to get it back.”
Journalist Andy Go characterized Jihad as “far-left Muslim extremists” and referenced rappers. Meanwhile, the victim reportedly wore a red shirt emblazoned with “Liberty,” reminiscent of the shirt Kirk wore when he was killed on September 10.
Videos captured the scene outside the event, showing a man, bloodied but still distributing “Freedom” shirts, being taken into custody following the skirmish. Reports indicate that a 25-year-old individual grabbed something from a supporter’s neck while a crowd, some wearing keffiyehs, overwhelmed the sold-out event.
Turning Point USA’s Chief of Staff Mikey McCoy expressed concern in a social media post, stating, “Antifa is breaking through police barricades and threatening event attendees!”
In response to the escalating tensions, Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Corbett highlighted the ongoing chaos, mentioning, “Despite Antifa thugs blocking campus tours with tear gas, fireworks, and glass bottles, the bright blue center of UC Berkeley was packed.” He also extolled the courage of the students, remarking, “God bless these brave students. For Charlie.”
On the following day, the Department of Justice announced an investigation into the events at UC Berkeley. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon shared a message addressed to the police chief, emphasizing the need to preserve all records related to the mob violence at the Turning Point USA event. She asserted, “Every American has the right to speak and participate in events without fear.”
