Individuals should not have the ability to purchase a gun repeatedly each month.

During an interview with ABC’s Rebecca Jarvis, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) stated that people “should be able to buy a gun for a month and then buy another gun the following month.”

Frey made these remarks after Jarvis mentioned that Minnesota has strong gun control laws, including the Red Flag Act, which failed to prevent the tragic attack on Catholic schoolchildren that occurred on Wednesday.

Honestly, it’s frustrating! The Minneapolis mayor is offering “thoughts and prayers” for the victims of a shooting.

Jarvis asked, “Here in Minneapolis, there are very strong red flag laws on gun control. Do you think there were signs that were overlooked?”

Frey responded, “I’ll speak generally because I don’t have all the details right now. We have more guns in America than people. There’s really no reason for someone to buy a gun one month and then another the next.”

He added later, “This isn’t just about guns, you need to understand that. This is about taking action.”

Frey further expressed:

Other countries have faced similar tragedies and have enacted changes to prevent them from happening again. We have the opportunity to do the same here. Let’s aim for this to be the last time we speak about such events. How often have we heard discussions on this? Necessary changes are needed, yet nothing happens. It’s up to us.

In the end, Frey did not address concerns about school resource officers potentially becoming attackers. He also didn’t discuss the option of allowing teachers to carry weapons for defense in the classroom. Despite Minnesota’s strict gun laws appearing ineffective in preventing Wednesday’s horrific attacks, his focus remained on tighter restrictions surrounding the Second Amendment.
