IndyCar racer Jack Harvey diagnosed with cancer at the age of 33

British IndyCar driver Jack Harvey revealed some heavy news on Tuesday: he has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 33-year-old shared his diagnosis in a heartfelt social media post, expressing his hope to return to racing in 2027, starting with the season’s first race in St. Petersburg, Florida, come March.

“My entire career has been about fighting for what’s next. The next opportunity. The next chance to prove myself,” Harvey mentioned on X. “The next time I could get back in the car and show what I’m capable of. There have been moments when the path forward was clear and plenty when it wasn’t. I’ve had to earn my opportunities, fight to keep them, and learn how to push on when things didn’t go as planned. But all through that, I’ve always believed there was something worth fighting for. Now, life has handed me a new battle. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer.”

Despite this challenge, the former British Formula 3 champion remains focused on his goals.

“My goals for 2027 haven’t altered. I intend to be on the grid in St. Pete and hop back into a race car this May to prepare for the Indianapolis 500,” he added. “I’m receiving excellent care and support from my team, my family and friends, DRR, FOX, INDYCAR, and many others. I’ve never backed down from a challenge in my life, and this situation is no different. So… Let’s fight.”

Following his announcement, Harvey was met with overwhelming support from the motorsport community.

Fellow racers Conor Daly and Scott McLaughlin both offered their encouragement to Harvey.

Daly commented, “We’re with you brother, you got this 💪” on Harvey’s post.

McLaughlin reposted Harvey’s statement, saying, “Love ya brother ❤️💪,” and then added “#jackstrong.”

The Lincolnshire native also received messages of support from his colleagues at Fox Sports, where Harvey had worked as a pit reporter during the network’s inaugural season as the IndyCar series rights-holder. He had also served as an analyst for Indy NXT races.

“My friend. My colleague. IndyCar Driver. We love you. We are behind you ❤️‍🩹,” wrote play-by-play and pit reporter Jamie Little.

“In working with him at FOX, I have admired his energy and passion and positive vibe — and I believe that will aid him in this fight,” reporter Bob Pockrass added.

Throughout his career, Harvey has participated in 93 races in the IndyCar series since his debut in 2017.

His best achievement came with a third-place finish in the 2019 Indy road course race, while his highest finish in the Indianapolis 500 was ninth in 2020.
