IndyCar Drivers Involved in Serious Collision at Bommarito Automotive Group 500
On Sunday, during the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, IndyCar racers Josef Newgarden and Louis Foster experienced a dangerous crash.
The incident happened midway through the race when Foster lost control of his vehicle while navigating a turn, subsequently crashing into a wall. As he spun down the front stretch, Newgarden had no opportunity to dodge Foster’s spinning car, leading to a significant collision.
Newgarden collided with Foster, sending him airborne and ultimately flipping over. The vehicle landed on its roof and slid along the track. Rapidly, IndyCar safety personnel leaped over a barrier separating the pit road from the track to offer immediate assistance.
After being released from the infield care center, Foster discussed the incident with Fox Sports. “I wiggled a bit… it got a little too high and went into the marble,” he remarked. “I couldn’t stop the car from spinning, and obviously, it had a pretty horrifying effect on myself and Joseph. I’m glad he’s fine.”
Newgarden refrained from making a statement following the event. Meanwhile, Kyle Kirkwood secured the victory in the race, marking his second consecutive win and solidifying his third-place position in the season standings. He and Alex Palou are the only racers to have won so far this season on the IndyCar Circuit.
As for the current standings, Power lies in the lead with 73 points, followed closely by Pato O’Ward and Kirkwood, each with 75 points.
In this particular race, Newgarden finished in 16th and Foster in 24th.
