Australian Influencer Claims Denial of Entry to U.S. Over Billie Eilish Joke
Drew Pavlou, an Australian influencer, says he was barred from entering the United States after posting a joke on social media about Billie Eilish. This incident followed a speech Eilish made during her Grammy Awards acceptance, where she stated, “No one is illegally living on stolen land. We need to keep fighting and keep speaking out.”
Pavlou’s post was a response to Eilish’s comments. He jokingly announced, “Exciting news. I’m moving into Billie Eilish’s $6 million Malibu beachfront mansion because no one can live illegally on stolen land. Thank you Billie for your generosity.” He even shared a satirical video claiming he would live with the singer.
He later elaborated on his plans for a press event near her home, mentioning that he intended to conduct a professional Native American smoke ceremony, having consulted with dance groups about it.
When Pavlou arrived at the U.S. border, he reported that he was detained right away. He spent four hours waiting in a screening room, then was moved to another facility where he waited for an additional six hours. Eventually, he was allowed to contact the Australian Consulate General, where he and his father connected. He described being taken to an interrogation room at 4 a.m., where officials questioned him about Billie Eilish and his activism against the Chinese government.
Pavlou expressed his surprise, stating, “I traveled to the United States on ESTA in January 2026 and had no problems. I had no issues after getting off the plane. Around this time, I also talked to officials at the U.S. Department of State concerning free speech matters in Australia.” Despite the bizarre circumstances, he noted the stark contrast to his previous experiences in the U.S.
