Influential guests gather at Waldorf-Astoria for Sorkin’s book, '1929'

Celebration at the Waldorf Astoria for New Book Release

This week, a gathering of influential figures took place at the newly renovated Waldorf Astoria New York to celebrate Andrew Ross Sorkin’s latest release, *1929: Inside the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History – and How It Shattered a Nation*.

The hotel, historic in its own right, was sold by the Astor family in 1929 to the developers of the Empire State Building, right before the market crash.

Sorkin, known for *Too Big to Fail*, hosted a cocktail party in honor of his book’s launch.

Among the guests were notable names like JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Martha Stewart, and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, alongside others like Gayle King and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

As Sorkin spoke to the crowd, he expressed a hope that the events of the past would not be repeated. “I wrote *1929* as a prequel to *Too Big to Fail.* I hope I never have to write a sequel,” he remarked.

Throughout the event, both Sorkin and Dimon cautioned about existing market anxieties, with one attendee quoting that “history may not repeat itself, but it certainly rhymes.”

Sorkin’s book officially hit the shelves this week, and he reflected on the striking similarities between the current market scenario and the 1920s, saying, “I can’t predict when or how severe the next downturn might be…but we’re going to crash.”

In a recent *60 Minutes* segment, he indicated his concern over market valuations, speculating whether we are witnessing a genuine boom or if prices are simply too inflated. “I think it’s hard to say we’re not in some kind of bubble,” he noted, pondering when that bubble might eventually burst.
