State of the Day
Greetings, Readers,
I can only imagine my editors’ reactions when they saw the title of this piece. Perhaps they thought, “Oh God.” Anyway, let’s dive in.
THE N WORD JOKE
You might not keep up with stand-up comedy, but over the past decade, there’s been a noticeable shift in a few areas. First, you might be surprised by how many well-known comedians lean to the right. It seems that when you start firing people for making jokes, well, that tends to happen.
Another trend I’ve noticed—one that, honestly, is way more apparent—is that comedians seem to aim their humor at the left far more than at the right. And here’s the thing: it’s actually funny! That’s essential; if it’s just a roast without a real punchline, it misses the mark.
Also, crowd work has taken off. It used to be dismissed as lazy, but now, it feels like a staple in the routines of even the biggest names in comedy. They’re not really performing traditional jokes anymore but casually chatting with their audiences.
With today’s political climate shifting and evolving so rapidly, it makes sense that comedians would grab attention less for crafted punchlines and more for their off-the-cuff interactions with fans.
This trend comes at just the right time because the effects of what’s being dubbed the “Mind Virus” are undeniably amusing.
Now, let’s talk about a particular comic. I honestly don’t know who he is, and maybe that doesn’t really matter. He’s engaging with his audience on the topic of Lindsay Clancy, and it turns out he has quite a few conspiracy theorists in the crowd. They believe Patrick was involved in the tragic incident with his children.
The real kicker? He poses a simple yet pointed question to one of the most outspoken audience members: “Would you still support her if it came out in court that she was shouting the N word throughout?”
“Probably not,” the person replies.
“Probably not, right?! Because killing kids is one thing, but that word? That’s another level!”
By then, everyone is laughing uncontrollably. At that moment, my faith in humanity feels somewhat restored. Even the person making that bold assertion seems to recognize the absurdity of it all.
The crowd is uniting in laughter over the bizarre standards set by the Mind Virus. Meanwhile, Shiloh Hendrix faces legal repercussions for uttering the N-word, yet 11 out of 12 jurors were inclined to acquit Lindsay Clancy for an unthinkable crime.
I have a sense we’ll emerge victorious in this battle. The Mind Virus won’t prevail. But for now, it’s comforting to share a laugh; it’s heartening to see that others are finding humor in this too.
