Hello, Reader,
I have an early flight today. Actually, this is being written a day earlier. So, it’s Wednesday on Tuesday night?!
(Fake) OUTRAGE!
Speaking of …
THE LEFT’S LATEST (NON) CONTROVERSY
Today, I’m meant to be shocked that a group of relatively unknown political figures used a slew of offensive slurs, including the n-word, and some variation of “retard,” a total of 251 times in now-leaked messages.
These so-called neo-Nazis who are masquerading as edgy Republicans seem clever enough to use the n-word in ways that hint at familiarity — perhaps aiming for something more casual?
But seriously: Hundreds of n-words without even one hard-R?
Nope. Politico’s Jason Beeferman took the time to actually count how often those offensive terms popped up in those chats.
Imagining Beeferman looking for that hard-R by typing it in a search bar, only to find a bunch of softer versions, well, that’s almost the most entertaining part.
The leaked messages show Young Republican leaders sounding more like adolescents who’ve just learned some profanities than seasoned political figures — you know, like 20-somethings pretending to be edgy 4chan users.
As a side note, actual 12-year-olds on Xbox Live can be far more vulgar, but that’s a different issue.
There were moments that definitely warranted an apology; using the n-word shouldn’t ever be acceptable, even jokingly. Then, there were comments about watching “monkeys” in the NBA or discussing a “Hitler aesthetic.”
“omg I love this idea” was a real reply.
Oh Em Gee, Hitler!
Is this bad? Yes. Condemning it? That’s easy. I mean, I could do it without any effort—but do I think they should be completely ostracized? Not really. Maybe just a brief acknowledgment of regret would suffice.
Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan insisted that every GOP member face this so-called non-controversy involving trivial, cringe-worthy comments.
But wait, didn’t Hasan once call non-Muslims “animals” and claimed that homosexuals were “pedophiles”? Sure, he apologized, but it was before he got his hour at MSNBC.
Joy Reid, also formerly with MSNBC, made derogatory comments about homosexuals on her personal blog. Yet, she attributed it to time-traveling Russian hackers or something, and everyone forgave her. She still has her show.
The head of Media Matters for America, who actively aims to cancel Republicans, has previously blogged about “japs,” “Jewry,” and even “trannies.” Shocking, right? And yet, she remains in good standing in polite society.
Then there’s Joe Biden, who casually dropped a hard-R during a congressional hearing — live, in public! And that’s not to mention his comment to a group of African Americans about Mitt Romney wanting them “back in chains.”
Chuck Schumer, who could be called a leader in the Democrat Party, weighed in on the leaked chats and labeled the comments as sickening and vile.
“This makes you want to throw up. This is what the worst kind of people say when they think nobody is watching.”
He also questioned where Republican leaders, from Trump on down, were in condemning these comments.
Well, let’s see if he’s paying attention to actual Democrats like the one running for attorney general in Virginia.
This candidate fantasized about shooting a former statehouse speaker — something he said he’d love to do more than once — just because the speaker had praised a recently deceased Democrat. Crazy, right?
But there’s more.
He also imagined the speaker’s wife suffering while their kids perish, and even expressed a desire to see more cops killed. All for the sake of making his policy goals easier!
These too were private chats that leaked, though he was foolish enough to send them to a Republican and then chastised her for not agreeing.
As far as I can tell, not a peep from any sitting Democrat about him stepping down. Abigail Spanberger, who’s running for governor, hasn’t said anything, either.
In fact, a poll in Virginia revealed that around 93% of Democrats weren’t bothered by these comments. It’s interesting how the same people who once were outraged over mask policies now seem to excuse threats against Republicans.
And yet, you want me to be upset about a bunch of “racists” who don’t even have the guts to use a hard-R privately?
As a friend once told me: “I’m just tired of hearing about the importance of words from a crowd that thinks it’s fine to use violence for certain political causes.”
I couldn’t agree more.
Until a larger portion of that “fiery but mostly peaceful” crowd stops believing that violence is justified, I can’t work up a genuine outrage over these chats.
