I was flipping through the Bible last night, specifically St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians, chapters six, verses 1-5 and verses 7-8.
My friends, if someone finds themselves in a wrongdoing, those of you who are in tune with the Spirit should strive to help them, gently of course. But be cautious not to fall into temptation yourselves. 2 Support one another, and this will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If those who mean nothing think they mean something, they’re just fooling themselves. 4 Everyone should evaluate their own actions; their achievements, rather than their neighbor’s, will become a source of pride. 5 Ultimately, everyone must carry their own burdens.

7 Don’t be misled; God isn’t to be taken lightly, for you reap what you sow. 8 If you invest in your own desires, you’ll face consequences from that. But if you invest in the Spirit, you’ll reap eternal life from the Spirit.
WELL, HERE COME THE CONSEQUENCES
One of the foundational principles of Western civilization is the idea that personal freedom is inherently linked to responsibility. The individual who takes on responsibility and meets it finds themselves enjoying more freedom than someone who avoids it.
It might seem a bit odd, but it rings true. If you care for your family, put effort into your job, and engage with your community, you’ll find that the community opens up more doors for you than you had at the beginning.
Now, do individuals who neglect responsibilities, maybe due to addiction or crime, get small business loans? Likely not. But that local business owner who supports youth sports and is a regular at church? Probably has a much better chance.
Paul speaks to charity and community obligations—”if anyone is detected in a transgression, restore such a one gently” and “bear one another’s burdens”—but he also emphasizes personal responsibility: “all must carry their own loads,” and the familiar principle, “you reap whatever you sow.”
This all hinges on the health of the community itself.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to assert that one political party in our country actively promotes a culture of evading responsibility.
This is often the party focused on “root causes.” Strangely enough, addressing these so-called “causes” rarely seems effective. Take Kamala Harris, for instance; in June 2021, she famously traveled to South America to address the “root causes” of illegal immigration. Yet, in the following three years, we saw a record 10 million illegal crossings.

Then there’s the Democratic establishment’s left wing.
Frances Gill of the DSA National Political Committee had a chat with Conan Nolan from NBC4 Los Angeles.

Frances Gill: We envision a future where people aren’t dependent on armed enforcement for public safety.
Nolan: But your website promotes “defund the police”—that’s your aim, right? Also, dismantling prisons, correct?
Gill: Exactly, yes.
Nolan: If my daughter is assaulted, who would seek justice for her?
Gill: Oh, of course—
Nolan: So what would replace the police, and what happens to the assailant if not in jail?
Gill: I want to avoid these hypotheticals and instead focus on our current reality — we are overspending on police and not enough on what truly enhances safety, like well-lit streets.
We also need more focus on mental health care and substance use treatment, considering what drives crimes and creates unsafe environments. Basically, we’re ignoring the real “root causes” and just pouring cash into policing.

This perspective isn’t just limited to DSA members and college radicals; it seems to permeate from militant socialists all the way to Joe Biden himself.
A recent piece in the esteemed New England Journal of Medicine argued, in all seriousness, that a figure like Jason Arday (RIP) did nothing wrong aside from being black in academia. The article goes as far as to claim that everyone’s cheating in that sphere.
Instead of maybe holding Arday accountable, or even examining the deteriorating standards in academia, who is the author really pointing fingers at? Racism, naturally. It’s the “root cause” of Arday’s academic challenges.
From the elite to the underpaid barista with a couple of degrees, and from the traditional establishment to radical thinkers, it seems nearly no one on the left wants a system where individuals are held accountable for their actions.
Now, I’m supposed to feel outrage over Yasmany Moreno de Armas, a Cuban who was deported to the Central African Republic after crossing into the U.S. illegally in 2016. Fast forward nine years to 2025 when he was caught and deportation was initiated.
Should I have been responsible for ensuring de Armas made the most of his (illegal) nine years in the U.S.? That he educated himself enough about U.S.-Cuba relations to avoid deportation? That he seriously thought about taking the $3,000 payout for self-deportation?
Now he’s in the Congo and CBS has issues with his outcome. No one on the left seems willing to discuss how de Armas’s decisions led to his current situation.

In the worst scenarios, avoiding accountability on the left burdens others.
Under Trump, DHS apprehended an illegal immigrant in one of the richest counties in America for selling fentanyl near a public school. He had been caught in 2016 during the Obama administration and released. When encountered again in 2024 under the Biden administration, he was set free.
“The Loudon County Sheriff stated that investigators identified him as a dealer linked to student overdoses at Park View High School in May 2026,” reported Fox’s Bill Melugin on Monday.
Students suffered overdoses. What were the “root causes” of those overdoses? Was it insufficient guidance counselors in the school? Lack of resources in the wealthiest county in Virginia?
The actual root cause in this instance seems to be Democrat leniency.
