Injured Rangers Players Expected to Return
Manager Mike Sullivan anticipates that some of the injured Rangers will be back on the ice when the season resumes Thursday against the Flyers.
Having practiced with the team over the past week during the Olympic break, both Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin are likely to make their return after experiencing lower-body injuries during a game against the Mammoths on January 5.
Forward Connor Sheary and Adam Edstrom have also seen some practice time, although Edstrom has been on the ice the least compared to the others.
“I think some of them are ready. I’m taking a look at it right now,” Sullivan mentioned on Wednesday. He expressed that he had been in contact with the injured players while in Milan for the Olympics, but now he’s collaborating with team president Chris Drury and the coaching staff on the situation.
“Some of them will be available Thursday. Not all, but some,” he added.
Sullivan also shared his enjoyment of coaching his son-in-law, Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy, while on Team USA. “It was special, I won’t lie,” he said. “Being part of the Olympic team is a privilege, but sharing it with family made it unique.”
“My whole family came to Milan to experience it together, and getting to work alongside Charlie was personally fulfilling,” Sullivan noted. “He’s a great kid and an incredible hockey player—just an all-around good person. It was a fun experience.”
In a separate note, Mika Zibanejad, who participated in the Olympics with the Swedish team, missed Wednesday’s practice due to an illness.
