Injuries Piling Up in the NFL as Season Progresses

The 2025 NFL season is facing significant injury challenges just ten weeks in. With Week 11 around the corner, teams could be bracing for even more players on injured reserve.

Notably, both Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Atlanta Falcons’ Michael Penix Jr. had to step away from their games this past Sunday. Rodgers was ejected during the match against the Cincinnati Bengals, while Penix Jr. exited during his game against the Carolina Panthers.

Meanwhile, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has been battling an ankle injury. At one point, he was seen in distress due to the pain. Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love also faced trouble, leaving his game because of a shoulder injury.

Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers suffered a left hand injury after a tough tackle by Bengals defenders. While there was some doubt about his return, he ultimately did not re-enter the game. Mason Rudolph took over, leading the Steelers to a victory with a score of 34-12.

During his time on the field, Rodgers completed nine of 15 passes for 116 yards, including one touchdown.

Michael Penix Jr.

Penix Jr. was diagnosed with a knee injury, which sidelined him during the third quarter, and he remained out even as the game ventured into overtime. Kirk Cousins stepped in and managed to complete 13 out of 16 passes for 175 yards.

Despite Cousins’ efforts, the Falcons lost the game 30-27.

Jordan Love

Love experienced a left shoulder injury during the Packers’ 27-20 win over the Giants, but later returned to contribute to the team’s success. He finished the game with 13 completions on 24 attempts, totaling 174 yards and tossing two touchdown passes.

Marcus Mariota

In an exciting game in Madrid, Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota had to be evaluated for a concussion but made it back to play. He was instrumental in driving the team into the red zone; however, the Commanders ultimately fell to the Dolphins 16-13. Mariota’s stats included 20 out of 30 completions for 213 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Backup Quarterbacks Making Their Mark

As injuries continue to mount, several teams were forced to rely on backup quarterbacks this week. Mariota’s absence followed Jaden Daniels’ recent injury, while Joe Flacco filled in for the Bengals as their third quarterback of the season due to Joe Burrow’s turf toe issue.

Additionally, Davis Mills started for the Houston Texans as they notched a 16-13 win over the Titans, evening their record. Jameis Winston took the helm for the Giants against the Packers in place of an injured Jackson Dart. The Cardinals also started Jacoby Brissett in place of Kyler Murray, and Dillon Gabriel began for the Browns, stepping in after Flacco’s trade.

As teams navigate these challenges, it’ll be interesting to see how they adapt moving forward in the season.
