Rangers Face Early Season Injuries

TORONTO — Just six games into the 2025-26 season, the Rangers are already dealing with significant injuries that have tested their depth.

They’ve had to adjust their lineup after second-line center Vincent Trocheck was placed on long-term injured reserve due to an upper-body issue, alongside defenseman Carson Soucy who also faces a similar predicament.

To fill these gaps, players like Matthew Robertson, Juzo Parsinen, Johnny Brodzinski, and rookie Scott Morrow are stepping up.

Head coach Mike Sullivan expressed his thoughts during a press conference following the Rangers’ 2-1 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs. “It certainly shows what we have and who can do what and who can play in the lineup,” he noted. “Every time a player gets hurt, it creates an opportunity for others. In my long experience in this league, many teams face similar situations. Some players really rise to the occasion, and those moments can potentially help them earn a spot on the roster.”

He continued, “The players will need to embrace these more critical roles. It’s an opportunity for them to demonstrate their capabilities.”

The decision to recall Morrow came after Will Bogen couldn’t practice due to a lower-body ailment. Initially, it seemed Morrow wouldn’t be an option when Soucy went down, mainly due to cap constraints.

Interestingly, having Trocheck on LTIR allows for flexibility if Bogen can’t participate in the upcoming road trip.

“He’s a strong kid,” Sullivan shared about Morrow. “He skates well and has good vision on the ice. He can contribute to the transition game and make effective first passes. He’s capable of maneuvering the puck through layers of traffic and effectively along the offensive blue line, which is a key skill for defensemen today.”

Meanwhile, Soucy was seen wearing a red non-contact jersey during Thursday’s morning skate.

In other news, Sportsnet’s Elliott Friedman disclosed that Brennan Osman, drafted 16th by the Rangers in 2021, is garnering interest from other NHL teams. The 22-year-old winger may find this change beneficial after failing to make the Rangers’ roster during training camp.
