Tucson Investigation into Savannah Guthrie’s Missing Mother Shifts Focus

TUCSON, Ariz. — The inquiry regarding Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother, Nancy, is changing direction. Initially viewed as a case of potential kidnapping, officials are now looking for individuals who might have known the 84-year-old, according to sources.

Pima County Sheriff’s detectives are currently reaching out to acquaintances of Nancy Guthrie and her family, hoping to find leads related to her disappearance. However, sources caution that the possibility of a ransom, potentially involving her daughter’s fame, has not been entirely dismissed.

The case has now entered its fourth day without any identified suspect or significant developments. Detectives continue to follow every possible lead.

“We have no concrete information, but we believe she is alive and we are committed to bringing her back,” stated Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.

Several ransom notes have been sent to various news agencies. Savannah herself even mentioned having some insights into the situation, claiming to know details surrounding Nancy’s disappearance.

Authorities are also investigating these ransom notes. The FBI is assisting with the analysis, but the focus appears to be shifting toward Nancy’s known associates.

Nancy was last seen Saturday night around 9:45 p.m. Her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, returned her home after they attended dinner together. Tommaso ensured that Nancy got home safely before he left.

Police have noted that Nancy’s family has been cooperative since she vanished after not appearing for church the following day.

Meanwhile, Savannah opted out of covering the Olympic opening ceremony to stay close to her family while the investigation unfolds.

The disappearance has baffled friends and neighbors, many of whom describe Nancy as kind and unable to fathom why anyone would wish her harm.

“Everyone who knew her loved her,” remarked a friend involved in a monthly book club with Nancy. She expressed concern, stating, “I don’t think she had any enemies, which makes this whole situation even more alarming.” Nancy lived alone in Tucson but never seemed frightened of her surroundings.

The search for Nancy is becoming increasingly urgent. Authorities report she requires daily medication, which she did not have with her at the time of her disappearance. It has now been nearly four days since she last took her medication.

While her family believes she remains mentally sharp, there are concerns about her physical mobility, complicating efforts to locate her.

Sheriff Nanos mentioned, “The clock is literally ticking,” and details about the number of suspects are still unclear, as officials continue their efforts.

A spokesperson from the Sheriff’s Department did not comment specifically on the focus of the investigation.
