‘Insane’ to Criticize Harris Fracking Flip — There Are New Technologies

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) told CNN's “News Central” on Thursday that it's “outrageous” to criticize Vice President Kamala Harris for changing her stance on fracking because of new technology.

Moderator John Berman asked, “Senator, where do you stand on fracking?”

“I think fracking is becoming increasingly safe to do. It depends on the location and the process, but I think anyone who's been following the technological developments over the last few years understands that there are places where it can be done safely. I think we need a strategy in this country to continue to develop our natural resources,” Murphy said.

“The reason I ask is because Vice President Harris was against fracking when she ran for president in 2019. But now her campaign is saying she supports fracking. And, of course, she's being interviewed on CNN in a few hours. How much do you think she needs to explain her change on this issue, or her change on Medicare for All, or her change on the border?” Berman said.

“I mean, does America really want a candidate who never changes his position on anything, who never looks at new evidence and comes to a different conclusion?” Murphy said.

He added: “I would say today that I'm positive about fracking because technology has advanced to the point where we can protect groundwater and keep local residents safe. I look at new information and sometimes I change my position. I'm sure Vice President Harris can explain why she feels differently on this issue. But I think it's insane to punish someone in politics for not accepting new information.”
