New York Tech Week Celebrates AI Innovation
During New York Tech Week, Nynext teamed up with Tech:NYC and Pensarai for its inaugural event. The evening showcased a mix of influential figures, from emerging startups making strides in artificial intelligence to established giants like Google and IBM.
Approximately 150 attendees gathered at the NY AI Demo Night, where founders and venture capitalists enjoyed fig and tuna tartare along with their preferred non-alcoholic beverages at the revamped Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg. The factory now offers impressive views of various startups and the Manhattan skyline.
Eight AI companies presented new concepts aimed at encouraging app downloads and investments.
Julie Samuels, who heads Tech:NYC, noted the unique ability of the New York tech scene to bring together major players who are implementing AI at scale alongside those in startup mode.
She emphasized the need for an event that connects founders and engineers with the evolving AI landscape, all set against the iconic city backdrop.
Real-world defenders of deepfake detection showcased their effectiveness in identifying AI-generated images. Founder Ben Colman commented that such technology would have completely dismissed HBO’s film “Mountain Head,” which revolves around the idea that deepfakes are detrimental to society.
Attending guests were treated to various innovations, marking the growth of Tech Week, now with over 1,000 events this year.
Promptlayer demonstrated its potential to enable AI in app creation. Founder Jared Zoneraich remarked that the best innovators aren’t always machine learning experts but rather specialists in their respective fields.
IBM shared insights on AI, notably announcing the launch of its Watsonx AI Labs in New York City. They highlighted that this lab isn’t your usual corporate setup; it will allow top AI developers to collaborate with world-class engineers and resources, fostering new businesses and applications.
Other participants included Flora, a creative AI tool; Every.to, which utilizes AI for podcasting and newsletters; SuperBlocks; Run Loop AI, aimed at helping businesses enhance their coding efficiency; and Google’s deep cipher.
This gathering was just one of many lively events during a week dedicated to technology.
The concept for Tech Week originated with Andreessen Horowitz (A16Z), starting in Los Angeles in 2022, and expanded to San Francisco and New York City by 2023.
Since its inception, New York Tech Week has ballooned to over 1,000 events and 60,000 RSVPs, with more than half centered on AI.
The energy was palpable, with Julie Samuels noting how the startups and ideas being shared reflected an exciting period for New York, providing just a taste of what’s to come.
